First Seventh Day Baptist Church of Alfred

P.O. Box 821, 5 Church Street, Alfred, NY 14802 / (607) 587-9430

We are a Christ-centered community of faith.  We are committed to a ministry of caring and compassion, both inside and outside of the church's walls.

We believe in one God, infinite and perfect, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe who desires to share His love in a personal relationship with everyone.

We seek to know God and be in a loving and personal relationship with God.

We actively explore God's presence and truths being revealed in today's world and for today's people.  We promote and encourage open discussion and study.

We are Sabbath keepers.  We observe the Biblical seventh day (Saturday) as the Sabbath, the day God ordained and blessed as the Holy Day for worship, study, fellowship. and rest.  We do this as a loving act of obedience.

We hold liberty of thought under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to be essential to Christian belief and practice.  Therefore we encourage the unhindered study and open discussion of Scripture.  We uphold the individual's freedom of conscience in seeking to determine and obey the will of God.

We believe in the Bible as the inspired word of God.  It provides the foundation and authority for our faith and our daily conduct.  We believe in baptism of believers, by immersion, witnessing to our acceptance of Christ as Savior and Lord.  We believe in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.  We believe in freedom of thought under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  We believe in the congregational form of church government.  Every member of the church has the right to participate in the decision making process of the church.

The Lord's Prayer

An Adaptation of “The Lord’s Prayer”

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name

We revere you, our Creator and Lord;

Your name is precious to us.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven

May the coming of your reign

Happen every day in our hearts;

In our living may your Good Will come to pass.

We trust your wisdom for us,

although we cannot always see it.

Give us this day our daily bread

We trust you know our needs,

And take up today’s Providence with gratitude.

Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors

Teach us to offer forgiveness to others,

Not deserving, but ever striving to earn

Your forgiveness, daily, freely given.

Lead us not into temptation

Although you send us to dark and

Difficult places for your sake,

Let not our minds and hearts go astray;

And deliver us from evil

Lord, spare us, please,

From evil without, and evil within.

For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

Amen
