"....for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matthew 25: 35-37, 40
Monthly Free Community Dinner
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Logan is marking the tenth anniversary of hosting and managing the Community Dinner offered on the last Thursday of each month. This dinner is offered without charge to the people of the Logan-Hocking community and is served between the hours of 5:00 and 6:30 in the basement of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. During the past year St. Paul’s has been joined in this feeding ministry by the churches of New Hope of Gore, Community of Christ, and the Society of St. Vincent DePaul and the Franciscan Association of St. John’s Catholic Church. A local 4H group has also assisted in serving meals. Thus far in 2005 the feeding ministry has served over 720 meals.
The main source of funding for this feeding ministry has come from the Episcopal Community Service Foundation of the Diocese of Southern Ohio. Last summer, St. Paul’s held a rummage and white elephant sale to help fund the dinner and its other outreach ministries. Because of the generous support of the community in donating items and attending the sale, the church raised $750.00 dollars.
In addition to dinner being offered for sit-down eating at the church, a takeout service is also available for those unable to attend the dinner. St. Paul’s also attempts to offer some grocery and household items to those attending the dinner.
