St. Patrick's is an Episcopal Church. As such, we are part of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio, and the Episcopal Church of the USA. What that means, in a nutshell, is that we are a community Christian church belonging to a larger regional and national church structure. Clicking on the links above will give you much more information about the greater church as a whole.
As an Episcopal church, we are in the Anglican Communion. Again, the link will give you a great deal of information about the communion. Boiled down, it means that we are affiliated with a world-wide church structure with a long and rich history. Liturgy- and Scripture- Based It is said that if you ask an Episcopalian to pray, he or she will first reach for a book. While it may seem odd to the newcomer, we believe what we pray and we pray what we believe. Many of the prayers we recite are found in the Book of Common Prayer. This prayer book is found in each of our churches and many of our homes, and is used to guide us through public services and private prayers. To find out what we believe as a church, read through our prayer book. Our church is rooted in Scripture. We spend much time reading and discerning God's word through his Holy Bible. Our services follow the same Lectionary (or calendar of Biblical readings) that many other churches follow, including the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Roman Catholic Church. If you are curious about what readings we will have when you visit, you can look them up on our Liturgical Calendar.
Like the sign says, The Episcopal Church Welcomes You! We love to have visitors. You will find that we go out of our way to make you feel welcome. Our church is God's house, all are welcome. |
