Community The mission around which we build our community is summed up in the words of Jesus in what have become known as the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, respectively:
Jesus replied, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the other commandments and all the |
Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Our mission, then, briefly stated, is "to love God with all our heart, soul and mind, to love our neighbors as ourselves and to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations." Community becomes real when members pray for and care for one another in practical ways (James 5.16; Ephesians 6.18; Galatians 6.1-2), hold one another accountable in walking in a manner worthy of the calling we have received (Ephesians 4.1; Colossians 1.10) and become a part of the mission and ministry of the local congregation through the discovery and use of spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12.1-13). The bricks and mortar in the building of Christian Community, then, are Community Care and Christian Formation. |
