In Christ The last two words of our vision motto tell us in whom, by whom and for whom we build our community. For, while we build our community around the mission Christ has given us, we build it in Christ himself (Colossians 2.6-7). We build it by and through his power (Colossians 1.29; 2.19). We build it for his glory (Colossians 3.17).
Christ is the reason and source for all that we do. He is the one who has reconciled us to God, given us his Holy Spirit and called us out of the world and into a new way of life as new creations. He is the one who holds all things together and enables us to accomplish all that we do for the Kingdom of God (Colossians 1.13-23). We stay connected with Christ and in tune with his will for us through the practices of personal and corporate prayer, study and worship. The work of building our community in Christ is accomplished by regular participation in the ministry areas of Christ-honoring Worship and Christian Formation. ¤ ¤ ¤ To each of the five bold, italicized ministry areas listed above, we can add a sixth that is administrative in function and scope. We will call this ministry area Stewardship -- that is the wise, godly use of our material, human and financial resources as a congregation.
| | By the Grace of God, we the people of Bethany Covenant Church will succeed in building this community as we develop, lead and participate in the six key ministry areas of Christian Formation, Community Care, Local Outreach, World Missions, Stewardship and Worship.
Summing up ... The vision of Bethany Covenant Church is Building Community in Christ. You will note the correlation between our initials and the vision: BCC. We believe this is who God has gifted us to be and called us to become more and more. We believe that as we pursue this vision we will be obeying the Great Commission and the Great Commandment; we will be serving God in the building and care of his Kingdom. We also believe that God will provide the strategy, people and resources necessary.
