Q: I understand the Leadership Team would be focused on the spiritual health, wellbeing, growth and direction of the church. But wouldn't they still have SOME administrative functions? Who would prepare and approve the budget, for example?
A: The Leadership Team would indeed still have responsibilities beyond the spiritual health of the church. Administrative things still need to be done, and some of them can only be done by the Leadership Team. However, much of it may be effectively delegated to people who are empowered to work through and take action. For example, the question about the budget is a good one. In a Leadership Team environment, ministry teams would submit budgets to the Treasurer, who would roll them up into a church-wide budget. If there are tough decisions to be made - and there usually are - these would largely be made by ministry team leaders among themselves, but might require the Leadership Team to arbitrate some discussions. While the Leadership Team may make recommendations, the final budget - as always - is up to the congregation to approve, not the Leadership Team.
