BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING
PRESENT: Jim Kristoff (Church Chairman), Luke Converse (Church Vice Chairman),
Converse, Ed Hatters, Pastor Stacey Littlefield, Gail Means
ABSENT: Joy Frame, Bill Klaus
The meeting was preceded by prayer. Jim convened this committee to review and implement the recommendations made by the Long Range Planning Committee.
Luke Converse was unanimously voted chairman of the Building Committee. He will contact Tom Johnson and Dale Fisher asking them to be part of this committee as members-at-large from the congregation. Others may be asked to provide their input in specific areas, but won’t need to be an on-going part of the committee.
The Committee reviewed the highlights of the Long Range Plan and Jim provided insight into the concepts behind the plan.
- DISCUSSION:
- Expansion has been discussed for so long, it is now time to act.
- We need to plan not only for our short-term needs but also be visionary about what may be needed years from now.
- We need to be intentional about creating spaces dedicated to building community: meeting/conversation areas that are less utilitarian and more inviting.
- Architect vs. Design/Build Contractor: there are advantages and disadvantages to both. A Design/Build Contractor usually costs less, but our main goal should be to find someone which whom we are comfortable and with whom we can work.
- When adding more parking, consider creating recreational use areas.
MEETING DATES/TIMES:
- First Meeting: Saturday, May 21, at church
- Subsequent meetings will be Tuesday evenings at church (except week before Council meeting when we will instead meet on Saturday morning at )
ASSIGNMENTS:
- Committee asked to review and pray about Long Range Plan
- Ed Hatters and Bill Klaus asked to prepare a detailed request for 15-20 additional parking spaces to present to July Council meeting; then to July Congregational meeting for approval of expenditure.
- Contact City of
Lyndhurst
- Lynn Converse will research the rule of thumb for classroom space needed for number in congregation (suggested contacting the Covenant).
- Chairman will notify congregation of vote to be taken at July Congregational meeting to approve expenditure (amount to be determined) to hire architect.
