What would happen if you heard on the radio that this year’s Thanksgiving celebration had been cancelled? Due to the economy, Americans have nothing to be thankful for-- we can’t even afford Thanksgiving dinner. We will have to work more years since our retirement accounts took a dive. We could get robbed traveling from the bank to the gas station because we want to “fill ‘er up” for a change. but our debit card won’t let us spend that much. We feel robbed again when we finally do “fill ‘er up.” On top of that, our political candidate lost (or worse yet, won) but even he can’t fix the economy. Well, there is good news. Your Thanksgiving is not canceled.
Our Thanksgiving will be a little different this year, since we’re going to Hong Kong. There will be no a turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, fresh baked bread, sweet potatoes topped with marshmallows, warm zucchini bread with chocolate chips, pumpkin or pecan pie. However, there will be our little granddaughter named Sonya Claire who we will get to finally hold. I realize that it is not the holiday foods that make up “Thanksgiving.” It is being thankful!
God has blessed Cindy and I with two great sons and their families; Jason and Sara, with baby daughter Sonya Claire and Jarod and Rosemary, with baby son Elisha Charles. Yes, I am aware that my retirement account has taken an $18,000 hit in three months; that it took over $100 to fill up the truck just a few weeks ago; and my airfare ticket is probably cheaper now than the day I bought it. I still am so blessed. Here is a song that I learned and sang often at my home church, “Count Your Blessings.” If you know the tune, sing it. Sing it until the spirit of thanksgiving fills you heart.
May your Thanksgiving be filled with thankfulness!
