As the new year begins, here are some good scriptures to keep in the center of your heart, as we all journey to become deeper disciples of Jesus in 2008:
- "Therefore, I urge you, brother (and sisters), in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12: 1-2
- “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self- control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1: 5-9
- "Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119: 105
- "Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just, so all went will with him. He defended the cause of the poor and needy, so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?’ declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 22: 15-16
- "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me and for the Gospel will save it.” Mark 8: 34-35
- "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1: 9
- “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My Face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7: 14
- “Come let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but He will heal us; He has injured us but He will bind up our wounds. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will restore us, that we may live in His presence. Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” Hosea 6: 1-3
- “Not that I have already obtained all this, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took ho of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold o it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind, and straining towards what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3: 12-14
- “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27
