Elijah had had enough. A day’s journey into the desert he lay down, exhausted and ready to die. But an angel came with a message, a touch, some bread and a jar of water. "Get up and eat", the angel said. So he did. After a good night’s rest, the angel came again, "get up and eat!" "Then he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights…" (1Kings 19:1-9)
As I heard this scripture read on the morning after we brought our son Mike home from the hospital, I thought of the many people who have touched our lives with a word, a call, an offer to help, a visit, a prayer. An angel is a messenger from God. I thank God for these messengers from God, for the simple blessings of sleep and wholesome food, and for the strength God will give for the journey ahead.
And I thank God for the privilege of traveling with all of you through this interim time at Pughtown Baptist Church, because I’ve discovered many angels in disguise!
Grace and Peace to you all,
Rev. Rhonda J. Cushman
