Pastor Tim’s Corner

At our Annual Meeting in January, we as a congregation voted to hire a part- time youth missionary that would partner with this congregation to share Gods love to the youth of this church and community. In March, the Board of Christian Education finalized a job description and it has been sent out through numerous channels. We are currently prayerfully waiting on the Lord to lead us to and make the connection with the person He has appointed to partner with us.

While we wait for the Lord to make that connection for our ministry, here are 25 things that we can be doing in order to prepare for the youth missionary:
  • 1. Take time every day to pray for the person that God is leading to us. Pray that the Lord would give them wisdom, courage, and guidance.
  • 2. Encourage and pray for the members of the Board of Christian Education who will be interviewing and working with the candidates.
  • 3. Watch the church calendar and let the Board of Christian Education know that you will provide food for one of the upcoming youth events.
  • 4. Be a driver for one of the youth ministry events in the coming months.
  • 5. Volunteer to come and hang out at the church with the youth during one of the youth ministry events.
  • 6. Volunteer to spend one Sunday in the coming quarter staffing the nursery at church during the worship service.
  • 7. Provide a snack for the nursery or childrens church during the Sunday worship service.
  • 8. Volunteer to teach the children’s church (k-5) one Sunday a quarter.
  • 9. Bring one of your grandchildren out to one of the youth ministry events in the coming months.
  • 10. Go to a sporting event or concert of one of the youth of the church and cheer them on.
  • 11. Write a note to one of the youth to encourage them and let them know that you are praying for them.
  • 12. Take one of the youth of the church out to lunch afler worship on a Sunday.
  • 13. Go for a prayer walk around the Ridglea community. Start at one end, follow the sidewalk and pray for the houses that you walk past and the families and children that you see.
  • 14. Go for a prayer walk around the Owen J. Roberts campus. Pray for the Lord to reveal connections bet ween the church and the school community.
  • 15. Ask a family in the chnreh with young children if you could babysit their kids for an evening so that they could get out for a date night.
  • 16. Invite a family in the church with children over for lunch after Sunday worship.
  • 17. Offer to pay a scholarship for one of the youth to go on the youth mission trip or another mission experience.
  • 18. Invite a couple of the youth of the church out for a night of fun…putt-putt, bowling, etc.
  • 19. Sit in on the youth Sunday school class so that you can get a better idea of the perspective that the youth are coming from.
  • 20. Ask some of the youth to join you on a local missions project - Habitat for Humanity, working in a soup kitchen, etc.
  • 21. Have a game night at your house. Invite some of the youth over to play games with you.
  • 22. When you see one of the youth participating in the worship service, take time to thank them for being part of the worship team, sound team, doing special music. etc.
  • 23. Every Sunday, give every youth that you see a hug.
  • 24. Ask the youth what would be a good way in which you could serve them.
  • 25. Ask time Board of Christian Education what would be a good way in which you could help the youth ministry grow.
Let us continue to pray that the Lord would make us available and open to the ministry that He is doing in and through this church.
