A movie out a number of years ago had a man by the name of Forrest say to a friend… “Simple is as Simple does”. How true he was.
When we as Brethren say we follow Jesus ‘simply’, that is what we do. That is how He calls us. Not with a lot of fanfare, not with a lot of ritual, and certainly with not a lot of pomp and circumstance.
We follow SIMPLY. Many years ago the Early Brethren were well recognized by their long Beards and Black suits that the men wore, as the women could always be found in the black dress and prayer cap. They were what were called Plain People. The church became more worldly in their dress, but not some much more in their dress…
SIMPLY was as SIMPLY is… the belief that we have, the faith we share, the love we spread, is as simple as it was then. Jesus shared His ministry by foot, in the center of towns and villages, in the midst of a few, in a very simple manner.
That is what we mean when we say we follow SIMPLY.
