St. Christopher- The Christ Bearer
The mission of St. Christopher's Church is to make disciples by
embracing the lost,
encouraging the seeker, and
energizing the found,
to spread the Good News of Christ's Love.
Welcome to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Oxford, PA located just south of Route 1 on Route 472 (Lancaster Pike) on the outskirts of Oxford Borough. Inside of what looks like a rather small church building is a wonderfully inviting and peaceful worship space of rich wood with a window to God’s creation of trees and meadow.
We are a people with a love of music, a commitment to our children and a passion for hands-on outreach to the community and beyond. Our Sundays begin with a quiet meditative communion service at 8 AM. Church School kicks off at 10:00 AM with worship and singing, and continues with classes of education and discussion. Holy Eucharist with organ and choir (or with contemporary music from our Wing and a Prayer group on the first Sunday of the month) is held at 10:30 AM, followed by refreshments and fellowship.
There is a lot going on in our family size congregation, please come out and see. Join us as we worship and serve the Lord.
December marks the beginning of a new chapter in our common life in Christ at St. Christopher’s Church. Today, Monday, December 1, 2008, the Rev. Barbara B. Rivers joined our congregation as Priest-In-Charge.She will celebrate her first Holy Eucharist with us on Sunday, December 7.
Pastor Barbara comes to us most recently from her service as Interim Rector of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Bristol, Pennsylvania.Prior to her service at St. James’, Pastor Barbara served as an interim rector for several other congregations throughout the Diocese of Pennsylvania. The Wardens and Vestry of St. Christopher’s are delighted and excited that she has agreed to join us as our Priest-In-Charge.
What is a Priest-In-Charge?A Priest-In-Charge is essentially a Rector without tenure. In other words, St. Christopher’s has retained Pastor Barbara for a two-year term with an option to extend that term by mutually agreement. We also have the flexibility after that period to call Pastor Barbara as our Rector or to begin a search process for a new Rector. Pastor Barbara has all the other rights and responsibilities of a Rector. She is not an interim rector. The focus of interim ministry is on preparing a congregation for a new rector and on supporting the congregation during its discernment process. The focus of a Priest-In-Charge is the same as that of a Rector
Please join us on December 7 for Pastor Barbara's first Eucharist with us at St. Christopher’s and please take the opportunity to introduce yourself. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or any member of the Vestry.
