We have a new Rector!
The Rev. Dr. Mary Ann B. Mertz has begun her ministry at St. Christopher’s, she celebrated her first Sunday with us on November 27, 2011, the First Sunday of Advent. Rev. Dr. Mertz comes to us most recently from the Episcopal Academy, in Newtown Square, PA, where she was the School Chaplain.
Pastor Mary Ann was interviewed by our Search Committee and by the Vestry. We are very impressed with her knowledge and experience. We are excited by her commitment to children and to liturgy.
Pastor Mary Ann achieved her Doctor of Ministry in 2006 and completed her Anglican Studies in 2009. We are her first parish as Rector, but she has been employed in Parish ministries for a long time. She is a musician, and has taught musicians for parish work. She has been a Director of Music and a Director of Worship, has led choirs and trained liturgical ministers.
Pastor Mary Ann has been a Christian Education Director charged with developing and implementing programs for adults, children, and those with special needs. She has worked on Pastoral teams contributing to budget decisions, outreach advocacy, Vestry meetings and retreats.
Pastor Mary Ann and her husband Ken, with their two small dogs, have lived a lot of years in Louisville, KY. Now they have made a big move to join our church in Oxford. They have made a commitment to St. Christopher’s and the ministry of our church. We are so very blessed by them and their faith in God’s plan.
