Lutheran Church Extension Society of SWPA

Building the Church: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

The Lutheran Church Extension Society of Southwestern Pennsylvania is a voluntary association of laypeople and clergy who belong to congregations of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

The purpose of the LCES is to provide 0% interest loans to congregations of the SWPA synod in order to assist them in a number of ways:

  • New construction
  • Energy conservation projects
  • Making buildings handicapped accessible
  • Providing for fire and safety considerations
The Society also maintains a separate fund for the partial support of synodically approved internship sites.

Membership in the Society is open to congregations of the SWPA Synod who pay an annual membership fee---currently $50.

Applications for loans may be made at any meeting of the Society's board of directors.

Loans will be granted to member congregations based upon:
  • Need
  • Ability to repay
  • Other relevant factors
The loans will be granted in consultation with the Synod office.

For more information about how YOUR congregation can become a member of the Lutheran Church Extension Society of Southwestern Pennsylvania, call Pastor Howard Ravenstahl at: 412-922-6055.
