At St. John's, we believe learning is essential to ensure the spiritual growth of all our members. We offer an hour of Sunday Church School for ages three and up each Sunday morning at 9:15 from September thru mid June. Currently there are five classes for children and two for youth with over 80 students enrolled. New students are welcome to join at any time.
Child care for ages 1 through 5 is provided in classroom S8 during the 10:30 a.m. worship service each Sunday. Ask one of our ushers or greeters for assistance in finding the nursery.
Our flagship mission in the community is St. John's Nursery School, now in its 31st year of operation. St. John's provides quality preschool education Monday through Friday for children aged 2 1/2 to five. An age appropriate introduction to classroom activities of all kinds in a caring, compassionate environment is the hallmark of the School. Classes that meet two, three, four and five days a week are offered, including a transitional kindergarten class. Currently 100 children attend and are instructed by a staff of eleven. Stability of staff is a strength of the school. For more information or to enroll, call (610) 272-7163.
First Notes music classes are offered for preschool aged children on selected mornings at 9:00. The classes introduce children to music, how we make it, how our bodies respond to it and how we appreciate it. A schedule of classes is available on the First Notes website.
Fifth grade members of the congregation are invited to prepare for participating in the eucharist through a five session First Communion course offered each October. Those completing the class gather to receive their first Communion during the season of Advent.
Catechetics instruction is offered for all 7th and 8th graders. Classes are held on Monday evenings at 6:30 from October thru May. Classroom activities are centered on study of Luther's catechism (The Ten Commandment's, The Creed and the Lord's Prayer). Upon completion of their studies, 8th graders affirm their baptisms through the Rite of Confirmation celebrated each year on the Day of Pentecost.
St. John's School offers Play Pals summer camp for all its students each June. A variety of schedules are offered. Playground activities, wading pools and crafts are included in this well rounded program for preschoolers. Additional information is made available each spring to all nursery school families.
Our Vacation Bible School is held each August with sessions starting at 6:45 p.m. Classes are offered for ages 4 years thru young people having completed 7th grade. All children in the community are welcome to attend. Call the church office for this summer's exact schedule and to receive a registration packet.
Adult study and discussion groups meet on Monday at 7:30 p.m. as announced. In addition to Bible study, course offerings include both classic and contemporary Christian texts. On-line education and discussion is offered by the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.
St. John's sponsors Boy Scout Troop #6. Meetings are held weekday evenings. Also, although the congregation does not currently sponsor a girl scout troup, scouting groups for girls currently meet at St. John's on weekday evenings. Call the church office for more information.
