Prayer in Our Daily Lives: Praying with the Parish

When you pray to God in psalms and songs, the words spoken by your lips should also be alive in your hearts.
-St. Augustine, Rule, Ch. 2

Every Sunday we gather to worship as a community, but our lives, our prayer, and our faith extend beyond. God's grace is found in our daily lives and there are as many ways to pray as there are people. Below are just a few of the ways the St. Mary of Grace parish family prays.

Everyday Prayers

Incorporating prayer into the small moments of our lives reminds us of God's presence throughout the day.

Eastern Orthodox Prayers
Traditional prayers from the Eastern Orthodox tradition which can be used as inspiration for one's own prayers. Thank you to St. Mary of Grace parishioners Edward and Marilyn for this contribution.

Familiar prayers can also form the basis for mediation and contemplation. One way to do this is to meditate on one line of the prayer each day.

Liturgy of the Hours/The Divine Office

The Liturgy of the Hours or the Divine Office is the public prayer of the Church for praising God and sanctifying the day. It is based on Psalms and Scripture and can be recited in community or in private. Morning (Lauds) and Evening (Vespers) Prayer are the two hours most commonly observed.
