What is XPA3?
XPA3 represents the third ride across Pennsylvania to celebrate the 15 years since Glen Rider's founder Brad Shelly was diagnosed with kidney cancer. This was Brad’s third trek across PA to celebrate health and to combat kidney cancer. You may have seen the August 10, 2005 article about the ride in the Souderton Independent.
Many members of the Glen Riders spent significant hours in the past few years pedaling across the beautiful roads of Montgomery and Bucks Counties. This time a number joined in this special bike tour. The event was used to help raise awareness and money to fuel research into the cause, cure and treatment of kidney cancer.
The team for XPA3 consisted of the following eleven riders: Mark Abissi, Daryl Derstine, Marlin Hershey, Steve Histand, Ken Hochstetler, Leon Hoover, Toby Lehman, Steve Leinbach, Brad Shelly, Dave Stevens and Todd Weaver.
The riders joined in the challenge of riding in the hilly terrain along Route 6 for approximately 380 miles in five days. Scheduled stops were as follows from West to East:
| Weds., Aug. 31 | Erie, PA | Getting ready |
| Thurs., Sep. 1 | Warren, PA | 85 miles |
| Fri., Sep. 2 | Coudersport, PA | 75 miles |
| Sat., Sep. 3 | Troy, PA | 75 miles |
| Sun., Sep. 4 | Clarks Summit, PA | 75 miles |
| Mon., Sep. 5 | Milford, PA then home | 65 miles |

Why we ride
Each year, more than 36,000 people are told they have kidney cancer. More than 100,000 kidney cancer survivors currently live in the U.S.
The Kidney Cancer Association is a charitable organization made up of patients, family members, physicians, researchers, and other health professionals. Their mission: A World Without Kidney Cancer.
The KCA is a catalyst for new ideas. They sometimes provide financial grants for basic research into the biology of cancer or collaborate directly with the National Cancer Institute or academic institutions on statistical research.
The Association was founded in 1990 by a small group of patients and medical doctors in Chicago, Illinois. It is a nonprofit charity incorporated in the State of Illinois that been designated as a tax exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. IRS code so donations should be tax deductible; check with your tax advisor.
The riders covered all expenses associated with the ride. Please consider making a donation to this cause.
Sponsorships are appreciated and will really make a difference to those living with this disease. Checks can be made payable to the “Kidney Cancer Association”. For more information about KCA, goto Kidney Cancer Association website.
