Adult Education - One of the foundations for ministry is the knowledge and application of God's Word in one's life. The Adult Education program of the church seeks to equip students for a lifetime of ministry through elective courses focusing on Scripture, theology or an issue related to Christian living. Electives are scheduled as 6-8 week series, meeting most Sundays from 10:45 - 11:45 AM. We are currently (Feb-March 2008) having 3 lively discussion groups about the day's sermon -- everyone is welcome.
Fellowship & Small Group Bible Studies -- First Presbyterian has a variety of places a person may build friendships with others in the congregation. Some of the groups are age-specific, some are quite large, some are small and intimate. We have a seniors group that meets the second Wednesday of the month for a luncheon program (September - May), new small groups are forming that meet in homes, Women's Ministry Bible studies, Priority One men's groups, special events like the all-church picnic, golf outing, Meet Me at Aladdin's, Maundy Thursday dinner (March 20, 2008).
Service Opportunities - Our members serve within the congregation, as well outside. There are many avenues to serve, whether as a Missions Committee member, a volunteer in Children's or Youth Ministries, in the choir or worship team, as an usher, or in hospital visitation. Many of our members also take part in other ministries and organizations that serve the City of Reading or Berks County. For example, volunteers serve through programs with the Salvation Army or the Central Park United Methodist Soup Kitchen. We are interested in being an equipping church in Reading, enabling other ministries to flourish.
