Holmes Presbyterian Church is an evangelical church founded in 1907 and a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA). We have had two other church homes in this community before our present sanctuary was dedicated in 1954. In 1963, our Christian education building was completed.
From our heritage in the Reformed and Presbyterian family of churches, we believe the Bible is God's written revelation about Himself, us, and our world. We hold it as our primary authority for the Christian faith and its practice. We believe that God is sovereign and triune in His nature: Father, Son, (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit-three Persons in one being. We understand that Jesus Christ is our Savior from the power and penalty of sin, and Lord of His Church and the universe. We come to trust and love Him by means of our faith. We hold that the true Church has been established by Christ and His apostles; is made up of all who trust Christ as Savior and Lord; and is empowered by the Holy Spirit to worship, witness and call people to a new relationship to God through Christ. We believe that Christ is coming again to judge the world (all people, institutions, and nations) at the end of ages, and to bring all things to consummation under his sovereign rule.
As Christians we seek to serve God in the communities where we live. We support Presbyterian mission causes in our metropolitan area, such as the Eastside Ministries and T.M. Thomas Center in Chester. We are concerned about our world-wide Christian witness and help support Presbyterian mission causes and missionaries like Bethel Evangelical Secondary School in Ethiopia and other Christian missions. We also assist members of Wycliffe Bible Translators, Dr. & Mrs. Wolfenden (retired translators in the USA) and Janet Morris (Recruiter in Pennsylvania); Arab World Missions, Rev. & Mrs. Shadid (in Florida); Appalachian missions, Mrs. Sue Howard, (in Kentucky); and University and Urban Missions, Mr. & Mrs. Dickason, (Hungary).
We invite you to make your Christian Church home with us and share in our ministry in Christ's name to our community and the world.
