The View from the Pastor’s Window

"Give, and it will be given to you.  A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."  Luke 6:38

Give. That is what this congregation has been doing in wondrful ways in the past month.  This year the session determined to cut the budget and do our best to live within that budget.  That has meant any of the "extras" have had to come from extra giving - in time and talent and resources.  And this congregation has met the challenge with the abundance spoken of and promised in this verse from Luke's gospel.  I just need to say how proud I am of this congregation and of your giving spirit.

When Luella retired as secretary and session determined that the secretary's hours would be reduced and the extra filled in by volunteers, we had more volunteers than were needed to meet the hours and so we have had the benefit of volunteers to do jobs that exceed what Luella was doing.  We have a crew that has taken on the production of the View and a group that prints and folds the bulletin.  We have a special group to handle the bulletin boards and the sign on the church lawn.  All of these are volunteers, giving as has been given to them.

When we had a need for a new refrigerator and let the congregation know of the need we received not one but two, one gently used and one brand new.  This met the greater need for cold space to enable us to better prepare and serve dinners.  Speaking of dinners, Donny F. has organized and managed several dinners as fundraisers, with help from various members of the congregation.  The success of this giving act has exceeded even his expectation and has benefited the reduced CE budget for Vacation Bible School.  We have experienced the promise of good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.

The same can be said for the lawn care.  First, there were lawn mowers donated and then a crew of workmen who stepped forward and have not only cut the grass, but have trimmed the cemetery and hillsides, saving a great deal of money on lawn care service.  This is great giving.

Add to this the generosity of one of the best flea markets we have had in a long time, a great golf outing that was intended for fellowship, but also raised money and a wonderful Mother's Day Tea which was generously supported.

This scripture is God's promise and we are seeing the fulfillment of it in the life of this congregation in many so many.  For this I praise God!

Pastor Kay

Membership Committee News

Some big news this month!  First, a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the Third Annual Free Car Wash!  Whether you helped wash cars, provided needed supplies, brought your car in to take advantage of the opportunity, or simply prayed for our efforts, you are appreciated.  Yes, it was cool.  And yes, it rained on and off.  But, the weather actually made the job easier we didn't have to worry about overheating, and we didn't spend much on bottles of water for the workers!  No one kept a count of how many cars we washed, but we ended up getting donations totaling $228.00.

Second, the pictorial directories are almost here!  The mock-up was reviewed by us and returned a few weeks ago and the finished product is expected to be shiped to the church early in June.  FINALLY! REJOICE!

More events coming up:  About mid-June we are teaming up with the Christian Education Committee to honor our five Confirmanands with a celebration dinner prior to their joining as confirmed, active members of our congregation.  The preparations for that are well underway.  Please pray for their journey.

Finally, please continue to help up by bringing to our attention any new visitors you notice before the worship service on Sundays.  Sometimes we get caught up in other things and don't notice everyone and we like to personally welcome them and present them with a small remembrance of their visit with us.  Of course, a personal welcome from you would help to make them feel welcomed, too.

For the Membership Committee,

Kim F.

Mt. Pisgah Kids are Special!

As your are already aware, Mt. Pisgah children are special and dear to our hearts.  That is why you will see a new feature in the church nursery, The Special Kids Checklist.

The Special Kids Checklist is designed to keep the weekly nursery staff apprised of any special needs or issues your child may have so that we can better serve your family.  We are finding that several of the children have allergies, sometimes they are under the weather, may be taking medication, or just require a little extra TLC that day.

The checklist will be posted near the bulletin board in the nursery.  Please help us help you by noting any special needs, even if it's as simple as "don't disturb Mom during worship" or as detailed as allergy instructions.

Please see Christiane in the nursery, or Jan C., with any questions or concerns.

Pleasant Valley Men's Shelter Dinner
The Deacons are coordinating the dinner to be served at the shelter on Thursday, June 12.  If you are interested in preparing any of the dinner or going to serve at the shelter, please contact any Deacon.  They can always use the help - and the men really appreciate the home cooked meal.  Thank you.

Thank you to members of the church who are taking care of the cemetery grounds.  We were able to put flags on the graves of veterans without incident.   Keep up the good work!

Fifth Annual Mother's Day Luncheon & Tea

The Motherps Day Luncheon and Tea was a wonderful day.  There were youngsters with their mothers and beautiful ladies dressed up with their hats, all enjoying the day.  How great to see all these people coming into our social hall from many different parts of the city.  The lunch was delicious and plentiful and the cookie trays the Deacons baked were gobbled up.

The Deacons worked very hard preparing their baskets and setting up for the Mother's Day Luncheon and Tea.  The Deacons donated products for each basket and this allowed the event to be profitable as well as a warm gathering of fellowship.  The profit for the event was $870 which will go towards the church and mission needs.

I wish to personally thank all the Deacons for their contribution to make the day happen.  By each one giving of themselves in their own way, the whole day came together and went smoothly.  We worked as a team and it showed in the successful outcome.  Thanks again to the Deacons and everyone who came to join in the day.

The Deacons continue to keep the members of our church and our community in their thoughts and prayers.  If you have a special need or know of anyone who has a special need, remember to let you Deacon know.

Respectfully,

Barbara D. , Board of Deacons
