Emmanuel United Church of Christ has planned a monthly educational series for any interested persons to attend, exploring the world’s major religions.  The first session of the series will take place on Sunday, November 22nd, beginning at 10:45 AM, following worship at Emmanuel (which meets at the Yorktown Community Center).  You are welcome to come to worship at 9:30 AM and stay for the discussion, or just come for fellowship time between 10:30 and 10:45 and the program to follow.

This first session: The Purposes and Benefits of Interfaith Dialogue, will be presented by Carol Walker, organizer of the new Interfaith Dialogue Forum in York.  The presentation will include a time for questions and answers and discussion.

Sessions will resume in January in once-monthly sessions, all on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 to 3:30 at the Community Center.  Each month, a presenter will share insights on one of the faiths – Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity.  A schedule of dates will be made available at the first session, or visit EmmanuelYork.org.

"Learning and Living the Journey of Faith"

It's more than a slogan...it's a commitment

EMMANUEL'S KENYA FUND:  Education is an essential part of development and insight. In many countries, it is also a matter of social justice. Emmanuel's Kenya Fund provides secondary education to the girls of Mercy Home Orphanage in Maseno, Kenya.

In Kenya, funded public education ends after 8th grade.  We are raising the money needed to send the orphans of Mercy Home to secondary school.

In 2008, we have raised nearly $5,000 which will send about 20 girls to secondary school.

We are now raising funds for the 2009 school year with the hope of continuing to provide $5,000 to Mercy Home for secondary school fees.

2009 KENYA SCHOOL YEAR UPDATE

The young ladies at Mercy Homes Orphange are in school and making great strides toward completing their first half of 2009 secondary education.  One young lady finished her secondary schooling in December 2008 and passed the test to receive her secondary diploma.  Now, with great joy, she is enrolled in a 2-year Business Management program at MMUST in Kakamega.  It is wonderful to see these young ladies taking full advantage of opportunies that have been made available to them and to begin to dream of a future for themselves.
