UPCOMING EVENTS AT ST. LUKE’S
Free Movie Night! Watch this space to find out about the next free Movie Night at St. Luke's, featuring plenty of free soda and popcorn. See you there!
Gathering of the Laurel: It happens again on Sunday, November 15. It is a tradition dating back nearly 130 years, almost to the very founding of St. Luke's. Lovely green laurel is collected in the countryside and then brought into St. Luke's where this seasonally-striking greenery is wrapped around ropes that are then draped from ceiling in St. Luke's sanctuary. It is St. Luke's way of preparing the sanctuary for the holidays. Please join us on for this delightful experience on Sunday, November 15.
This year's Laurel Gathering will differ slightly from the practice in years past in that we will BEGIN with a meal (offered by St. Luke's Guild) in Fellowship Hall, immediately following our 10:45 a.m. worship service that morning. Then after the meal we will we will proceed to begin tying the (already gathered) laurel to the ropes and then lifting the decorated ropes to the rafters in the sanctuary.
Please come join us for this wonderful tradition: a time of fellowship, food, and joyful preparation for the days ahead. We hope to see you there!
Hanging of the Greens: The culmination of the "Laurel Gathering" happens two weeks later, when the final two strands of laurel are lifted into place in the St. Luke's sanctuary. This annual ceremony takes place during our 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday, November 29. This annual celebration during worship on the first Sunday of the Advent season is followed immediately by (you guessed it!) more food and fellowship in St. Luke's Fellowship Hall. Please join us!
A Study of Parables. This fall, each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m., adults in St. Luke's Questers' Class are exploring the parables of Jesus. Using curriculum prepared by Dr. Greg Carey, Professor of New Testament at Lancaster Theological Seminary, the Questers' class is seeking new insights from these often inspiring, sometimes challenging stories called parables. (Professor Carey describes parables as "the most distinctive aspect of Jesus' teaching.") Video excerpts from Professor Carey help introduce each class session, which at St. Luke's are led in a lively, engaging way by Sam Minder, Jr. (who is himself an experienced educator). Come be part of this exciting adventure!
