WORSHIP AT ST. LUKE’S UCC:

A Rich Tradition

Worship at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ integrates tradition and innovation. St. Luke’s was founded under the auspices of theologian John Nevin, who launched the liturgical renewal effort that became known as the “Mercersburg movement.” (See "History of St. Luke's" page on this website.) The Mercersburg emphasis upon liturgy and sacraments is still very much part of worship at St. Luke’s.

At the same time, St. Luke’s has on occasion explored newer forms of spiritual expression, such as Taize-style worship by candlelight and multi-media presentations.

In many respects, the Mercersburg movement sought to find ways to infuse new life into traditional worship. At St. Luke’s we still do.
