CROPWALK WITNESS 2011

Under a clear October sky, the 5th annual Tri-State CropWalk began to come together. As groups of walkers arrived to register, they put on their neon green CropWalk t-shirts. The Broome Street band played as the crowd grew.

At 2:00pm, 187 walkers started out through the streets of Matamoras and Port Jervis.

Families, some with their dogs, teens and adults representing area churches and the student councils of Delaware Valley and Port Jervis walked together to help hungry people.

Early reports indicate that together we raised about $12,000!

Once again DFUMC was a large presence at the CropWalk. Our team of 25 walkers raised $1200...

Praise GOD!

We thank God for all those who participated, for the faithfulnessin walking and for everyone's support in sponsoring.

Please continue to pray that the CropWalk will keep growing, and will remain a witness of God's care and compassion for hungry people!

The final figures show that the 188 walkers of the 2011 Tri-State CROPWALK raised $12,636.

Twenty-five percent of this amount will assist six area food pantries while the remainder will support the relief and development ministries of Church World Service around the world.

The totals also show that among 13 participating churches, the Dingmans Ferry UMC was in the top three churches in funds raised.

Praise God for the faithfulness of God’s people.

The 2012 Tri-State CROPWALK is scheduled for Sunday, October 14. Please pray that the witness of our local WALK continues and grows

CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world.  With its inception in 1969, CROP Hunger Walks are "viewed by many as the granddaddy of charity walks," notes the Los Angeles Times (Oct. 26, 2009).

On October 17, 1969, a thousand people in Bismarck, ND, walked in what may have been the first-ever CROP Hunger Walk – and raised $25,000 to help stop hunger.  Several other CROP Hunger Walks occurred soon thereafter, and before long there were hundreds of Walks each year in communities nationwide.

Currently, well over 2,000 communities across the U.S. join in more than 1,600 CROP Hunger Walks each year.  More than five million CROP Hunger Walkers have participated in more than 36,000 CROP Hunger Walks in the last two decades alone.

How is DFUMC getting involved?

This is the fifth year of our area CROPWALK, and each year DFUMC has been a major participant. Last year 193 walkers raised over $12,000 to support six area food pantries and the global work of Church World Service.

We look forward to walking together on October 16, with the company of several other area churches representing Pike County Pennsylvania.
