GREEN TEAM?
“The earth has taken good care of us……now WE have to take care of the earth” says Elmo of Sesame Street fame.
The children to whom I talked several weeks ago in Junior Church understood that and responded enthusiastically.
We have the opportunity here in this church, in our homes and in our communities to do many things that will take care of this earth and preserve it for our children, our grandchildren and those succeeding generations.
Several of us are considering establishing a GREEN TEAM at GCUMC. We are novices and are starting by looking for people who agree with the concept of “going green”. THEN who knows what might happen!
Recycling,
taking care of our air, water and food products are the areas that most
people consider when talking about “going green”. But in addition to those, I’m asking you to think about something DIFFERENT. How about a green roof on our church----not just the color green----over a healthy roof is placed soil and planted greenery! The green roof concept has proven to be a very good way to help the environment. More information is available if you are interested.
And my hope is also to establish a “JUNIOR GREEN TEAM” made up of the terrific children that we have here in our congregation.
SO, if you want to talk about this, get involved on any level, please contact Joan Gelet at 412-372-6155 or Pastor McCormick. Ideas are welcome and involvement would be wonderful.
