AFGHAN COUNT 1224 /INDESCRIBABLE//!!!/
183 CHEMO CAPS
214 PREEMIE AFGHANS

Our good friend, Sandy Lucas, has given us a pile of chemo caps, and this is the lady who is going through chemo treatments now. She also is the one who has given us a number of trash bag tote bags. Sylvia made a beautiful Prayer Shawl with matching chemo caps, and also an afghan and matching hat. The Quilting Needles gave us some wonderful quilts to
give to the Veterans. Robin Gerkin is the chief quilter. Dorothy has done several afghans of different sizes along with caps of different
sizes.

Esther Rees knitted a very soft yellow afghan. Irene Anderson is still bringing in fabrics for our quilting people. Pam Nelis is also supplying us with yarn. Blessing of the afghans was held on Oct. 11, 2009.

Trustees Corner

Fall Clean-Up Scheduled: Fall clean-up has been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21, from 8:30 AM – 12 Noon.   The Trustees need as many volunteers as possible in order to give the church a good cleaning.  There are also many, many leaves to be raked.  Please consider donating some of your time to help us in this important project.  The last few clean-up days have not been well attended, meaning a few faithful volunteers had to do a whole lot of work!   Any amount of time you can donate to help is very much appreciated by the Trustees.

Trustees Looking for Leaf Blower: Speaking of leaves, the Trustees are looking for anyone willing to donate an old leaf blower to the church.  That would make our leaf conquest much, much easier.

Volunteers Appreciated:  The Trustees wish to thank Forrest Blackburn and Bob Mungo for their recent volunteer efforts.  Forrest replaced a couple of bad light ballasts in the kitchen.  Bob gave the office carpet a well-deserved cleaning and scrubbing.

Energy Awareness:  Almost 30 compact fluorescent lights have been installed in the sanctuary.  These are the bulbs that save significant energy (a 15W bulb gives the same amount of light as a regular 75W bulb) and last three years and more.

Black Male Teachers -Do you know any Black males who are seniors in high school who want to go to college out of state for "FREE" ? Several Black Colleges are looking for future black male teachers and will send them to universities/colleges for 4 years FREE. The 'Call Me MISTER' program is an effort to address the critical shortage of African American male teachers particularly among South Carolina 's lowest performing public schools . Program participants are selected from among under-served, soc io-economic ally disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities. The program is a collaboration between Clemson University and four historically black colleges in South Carolina; Benedict College, Claflin University, Morris College and South Carolina State University. The project provides: Tuition for admitted students pursuing approved programs of study at participating colleges; an academic support system to help assure their success; a cohort system for social and cultural support. Visit www.callmemister.clemson.edu/index.htm for more details and the online application or call (800) 640-2657.
