Pastor: Rev. David Tatgenhorst
St. Luke Church is a church of open hearts, open minds, and open doors. We welcome you to worship with us any Sunday at 10 am. Our pastor is Rev. David Tatgenhorst. We offer a children's program called the Children's Celebration each Sunday during the worship service. The children gather in worship each Sunday. Most Sundays the children gather at the altar for a "theme talk" with the pastor or a congregant. They are introduced to the theme of the morning celebration and then the children go downstairs for separate programs. Melaina Marshall is the director/organizer of our Children's Celebration. Chrisnie Pagana teaches the class for younger children. Anissa Khan teaches the older children. There is also a nursery for toddlers or babies.
Each Sunday's morning celebration includes inspiring music directed by Organist/Choir Director Clyde Shive, jr., relevant preaching, and the presence of the Spirit. (Click here for a copy of a recent sermon at St. Luke.)

Living In Faith Everyday
We invite all members and friends of St. Luke to join one of our LIFE groups. The acronym stands for Living In Faith Everyday. You may want to start with the new members' class which meets with the pastor. These classes are a chance to learn about the faith, get to know other members, and to explore your particular faith journey. Then continue your faith journey through one of these regular groups:
Parents' LIFE group: meets the first and third Tuesday of the month over a shared dinner. Childcare provided along with Bible study and parenting support.
Exercising our Faith LIFE group: meets every second and fourth Monday evening for yoga stretching, and spiritual growth and support.
Women's Workshop: meets Tuesday mornings for spiritual support and lunch.
College Students' LIFE group: meets according to students schedule for dinner, Bible study and personal support, a "home away from home."
Homebound Visitation LIFE group: meets Monday evenings at the homes of homebound members and friends for singing and Bible study.
Men's Breakfast LIFE group: meets the first Sunday of every month at 8 am before the morning worship.
Sunday Bible Study: meets every Sunday after church for intensive Bible Study.

Sunday after the Epiphany
While
Pastor David travels to Israel for a week (and two weekends), we will be
blessed with two wonderful guest speakers. This first weekend Cy Swartz will
preach about the situation in Israel/Palestine in a sermon called “Peace and/or
Pieces.”
Cy
is a native Philadelphian who has spent much time as an advocate for justice. He
taught for 30 years in city public high schools and also worked as a Jewish
educator. He is committed to the rabbinic principles which describe the world
as standing on three pillars: Torah
– study; Avodah – Worship; G’milut Hasidim – Acts of Loving
Kindness. (For the past ten years he has been leading a vigil for justice for
Palestinians and security for all at the Israeli Consulate in Center City.
Most Saturday mornings he participates in study and prayer at
Congregation Rodeph Shalom.

Our
guest pastor this morning, Rev. Lydia Muñoz, will preach a sermon titled "Go Deep,"based on the
story of Jesus fishing with his disciples. Rev. Muñoz is the pastor of a new
church start in Narberth. She will also sing a song that she wrote and composed
called “Beyond the Gates.” The communion offering this morning will go for our
annual “Souper-bowl” contribution for soup for homeless people at the Mary Jane
Enrichment Center. Youth will be at the doors to the church to collect the offering
in soup pots at the end of the service. The Men’s LIFE group meets at 8 am.
The
adult class will meet after the service with Rev. Muñoz.

Sunday; Valentine’s Day Soup Potluck
Pastor David returns from
Israel/Palestine this week
with a sermon, “Can You Walk Where Jesus
Walked?” This will certainly be just the first reflection of many for David
and Kathy Taylor on their recent trips. After church we will gather in Lurwick
Hall for our annual “Souper-Sunday” luncheon. This year it can have a
Valentine’s Day theme, since it occurs on Feb. 14! Congregants are invited to
bring soup, salad, or bread to share with the faithful.
The
confirmation class will meet with the pastor over lunch, or find another time
to meet.

On
Wednesday, February 17, we begin our Lenten journey with a communion service.
The sermon, On the Way, introduces
our theme for Lent. We will be following the path of Christ toward Easter and
finding our own way on that path. Members of the Narberth United Methodist
community, Rev. Lydia Muñoz and other invited guests join us this evening for
communion and imposition of ashes in a new style.

Sunday in Lent
“On the Way: Through the Desert” is the
sermon that begins our Lenten reflections this season. Jesus began his ministry
with a fast in the wilderness, tempted by the devil to be the one everybody
expected him to be. We will think about how the expectations of people around
us sometimes keep us from being who we really are, or want to be.
There
will be a visitor’s welcome and orientation after church today. The adult class
also meets today after church.

Sunday in Lent
The sermon for the second
Sunday of Lent follows Jesus in his love and despair for the beloved city of
Jerusalem. On the Way:
to Jerusalem reflects on some of the modern day issues of this beautiful
city and what they have to say about our own faith journey.
