Statement of Purpose
We exist in Jesus Christ to help spiritually needy people become fully devoted people of God. God has called Millerton Wesleyan Church to reach the unsaved, to disciple the believer, to minister to the needs of our community, and above all to exhibit a holy life in attitude, word, and example.
Vision Statement
Our vision for equipping Millerton Wesleyan is that within this Conference year, our Church will be deliberately moving towards, or have already attained, the following qualities:
Commitment to evangelism, we will see people saved.
Commitment to strong Biblical teaching and preaching.
Driven by our purpose, not just a need to survive.
Local leaders modeling the fruit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Leading the congregation into the dynamics of Christ-centered living.
HISTORY OF MILLERTON WESLEYAN
In the summer of 1972, several families began to meet at the home of Bernie and Marion Braper. Apart from Bible Study and prayer, these meetings soon developed into planning sessions for the purpose of organizing a Wesleyan Church in the millerton area. On August 19, Pastor Harry Barrigar met with this group of people and accepted their request to serve as pastor and church planting director. The date of the first official service was September 24, 1972, which was held at the Millerton Fire Hall. On that first Sunday, there were 26 People for Sunday School, 27 for Morning Worship and 17 for the Evening Worship.
During the late winter and spring, the Church began to show excellent and stable growth, which came as a direct result of a powerful spiritual revival. Plans were soon laid for the construction of a church building. Ground breaking was held in May and the construction began the first of June 1973.
Due to the rapid increase in the size of the congregation it became necessary to move out of the Fire Hall sooner than anticipated. Thus on October 7, 1973, the congregation moved in the far from finished Church Building.
God's blessing began to "pour out" on the congregation and many people soon came to a saving knowledge of Christ. By the time the Church had reached its 4th birthday, the Morning Service was averaging nearly 200.
One Parsonage was purchased but another was soon constructed. Pastor Barrigar and family moved into the new Parsonage during Easter week 1976. In June of that same year pastor Jim Willson joined the staff of Millerton Wesleyan.
Following Pastor Willson's tenure there have been three successive pastors; Pastor Charles Kent, Pastor Lynn Ensign, and the present Pastor Laurie Greenlaw.
