Is This A Part of the Course?

The definition for on course is, in the right direction, or in a favorable position to achieve what you want to do or have been chosen to do. Many times when things are going right we automatically equate that with being on course. But when things are going “wrong” how do we equate that?

The truth of the matter is, when things appear to be going wrong, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are doing something wrong. As I reflect upon the life of Jesus in the earth, who did no wrong, there were many things that happen to him that we would consider “wrong”. But, these things were a part of the course.

It was “wrong” to have the Scribes, Pharisees and elders scrutinizing Him and His ministry. It was “wrong” for Judas to be in His inner circle and walk close beside Him, and then betray Him. It was “wrong” for Peter to have received and acknowledged Jesus’ true identity as the son of God, and then deny Him three times. It was “wrong” for people to cry out with cheer, Hosanna, Hosanna one day, and a couple of days later cry out for His crucifixion.

When people do things that we consider “wrong” and we have not done anything, we must simply acknowledge it as being a part of the course. When people scrutinize you and/or your ministry, it’s a part of the course. When people close to you betray you, it’s a part of the course. When people recognize the hand of God on your life and then draw back from you when trouble comes, it’s a part of the course. When people are celebrating you one day and hating you the next, it’s a part of the course.

As a matter of fact, if we are not experiencing or have not experienced any of the above things, you have to ask the question, “Am I really on course”? Now this concept really doesn’t make sense to the natural mind, but God takes the foolish things to confound the wise. It’s the things that hurt, that don’t seem right, that makes no sense that really help us to evaluate whether we are on course or not. Jesus is our great example, and He showed us how to stay on course in the midst of rejection, betrayal, loneliness and suffering.

Man of God, woman of God, you are in a favorable position, stick with your assignment, and stay on course!
