Epiphany at Vangen Lutheran Church in Mission Hill, South Dakota

At Vangen, we interpret Epiphany as getting a glimpse of the glory of God that others don't see. Epiphany is a season to admit that God's splendor is not like that of a Hollywood production, all enthusiastic action to amuse the couch potato. instead, Epiphany is God's revelation of who Jesus is - God's beloved, expressed by the recognition of his titles, his mission, his destiny to suffer and die for our sins, his light that cannot and will not be contained.

The season of Epiphany is not a chronology of Jesus' life; rather, it's the revelaton of who Jesus is. The truth of this revelation is essentially paschal, expressed in several ways: his titles, recognition of his mission, recognition of discipleship, and recognition of his destiny (and ours as well!).
