The primary mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee is to provide witness to the transforming and reconciling power of Jesus Christ and to encourage and equip the people of God.  The Diocese consists of 49 congregations in Middle Tennessee.  The Rt. Rev'd John C. Bauerschmidt is the Bishop of Tennessee.  The Seat of the Diocese is at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Nashville.




The University of the South
, popularly known as Sewanee, is the only university in the nation owned and governed by dioceses of the Episcopal Church.  The campus is situated on a 10,000 campus on the mountain 7 miles east of Cowan.  The College of Arts and Sciences offers an outstanding program with 36 majors, 27 minors, 15 special programs, plus pre-business, pre-law, pre-medicine, and pre-nursing.


The School of Theology at Sewanee offers graduate degrees and continuing education programs with outstanding scholarship in the Anglican heritage.
