UMW FUNDRAISERS AND MISSIONS

Our yard sale  in April, 2008 netted over $2100 and we plan on having another yard sale in March, 2010. Swamp John's Fish Fry in March, 2008 netted over $1000. These funds will be used to fulfill the part of our purpose that challenges us to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.  These fundraisers, together with Wed. Night Fellowship Meals and  the annual bake sale, will enable us to continue supporting local missions that include A Kid's Place, East End After School Program, Back Pack Program, The Shelter, Santa for All Seasons, The Lawrence County Humane Society and assistance to children and youth who become part of the Foster Children Program in our county.  A college scholarship, assistance with camping fees for the children and youth of the church, and help in paying the costs for our youth to go to Warmth in Winter are also local outreaches.  The UMW sponsored a Swamp John's fish fry, in March 2009, that was a benefit for T.J. Moore, to help him with medical expenses.
The UMW donates to the Nicaraguan Educational Scholarships for the children of Amatitan, Nicaragua, to be able to attend school.  Without this assistance sponsored by our church, most of the 180 children in Amatitan could not afford to attend.  In addition, Mission Giving to the worldwide network of mission outreach  by United Methodist Women is financed by the many fundraisers of the UMW of Lawrenceburg First United Methodist Church.
