200th Anniversary of CP Church

The Cumberland Presbyterian Church was born on February 4, 1810 in Dickson County, Tennessee.  Finis Ewing and Samuel King met with Samuel McAdow in his home where they did a lot of talking and much praying.  They met on February 3 and in the morning of February 4 McAdow agreed to join them and form Cumberland Presbytery.  There were several things that led to the forming of Cumberland Presbytery that led to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

In the Pine Tree CP service on Sunday, February 7, you will see a 15 minute film clip on the beginning of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  You will find this interesting.  As a denomination, we are celebrating 200 years.

At the meeting of the General Assembly in June, 2010, in Tennessee, much is planned to celebrate this historical event.

One thing that led to the forming the church was the rejection of the doctrine of election and reprobation as taught in the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Part of the film you will see on Sunday will tell you more.
