Sponsored Community Groups

Faith Lutheran has chosen several groups that we support with our time and talents. Our members serve on their boards and various groups within the church either serve as the sole supporter of the project or give generously. They are:

  • MI Lewis - a multilevel support (food, shelter, etc.) for people in crisis or need in the Dickinson Area. The Center is seeking volunteers to do general office work and for special projects such as food drives, school supply packets, and Thanksgiving baskets. Volunteers will aid those living in the Dickinson independent School District through emergency financial assistance, food, clothing, and Thenksgiving baskets. Help is needed Tuesday-Friday 8:30 AM-12:30 PM. Volunteer days and hours are flexible. Training is provided. Those interested may call 281-534-2043.

  • HIS Ministry - a multilevel support for people in crisis or need in the Santa Fe Area.

  • Habitat For Humanity - The Dickinson chapter is supported with labor and monetary donations.  {See below.}

  • Teen to Teen Program - Money is raised for needy teenagers to help buy need items for home and school.

  • Empty Stocking Program - Christmas giving program that provides help to the children in the community by buying Christmas presents.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOMES

Faith
Lutheran Church and our fellow Lutheran Churches in Galveston County and Bay Area are teaming up to build two Habitat for Humanity homes simultaneously in Dickinson.  The two homes will be built in the area where 52 Habitat homes already exist.  One of them was built four years ago by the Lutheran Churches.  Habitat has had a successful endeavor here.  Only two homes have been taken back.  This speaks well of the good work that the Habitat people do in selecting families to receive a home.  Those that are selected must meet stringent guidelines and also aid in the building of their future home.  Many of those living in the Dickinson homes have sent their children to college and they have graduated.  Habitat for Humanity has a record of showing that the money they receive goes for a good cause and is well administered.

Ten participating churches must collect $16,000.  Faith will have a free will offering on the 3rd and 10th of May.  cash can be placed in the envelope in the pews or use your own and place your name and "H for H" on the outside.  Those writing a check should make it our to "Faith Lutheran Church" designated for "H for H."  These procedures are to assist those who itemize for the IRS.

The Thrivent Coordinators believe that Habitat for Humanity is a very good non-profit organization and have no fear that the monies will be wasted.  They are pleased to see the successful H for H projects here in Dickinson.  Drive east on Deats Road and shortly after crossing the railroad tracks, you will see for yourself where donor money has been very well spent.  Your generous support will be greatly appreciated.
