You can help make sure that families stay together when they need each other the most.
Family Promise provides comprehensive support to families at a time of greatest need and vulnerability in the following ways:
1. Thirteen Odessa Host Congregations form our network and each is prepared to accomodate up to 14 people for a week at a time on a rotating basis. Each congregation hosts for just one week about every three months. Guests stay at a host site from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Each host congregation provides accommodations, an evening meal, breakfast and a bag lunch.
2. Volunteers prepare meals, set up sleeping accomodations, stay with guests and help with cleanup. Most important, they offer their guests friendly support, help with day-to-day needs and a listening ear.
3. On weekdays, adult homeless guests go to our Day Center at 1354 E. 6th Street in Odessa to be assisted by Family Promise staff and volunteers in searching for jobs, housing and social support services from 8:30 to 5:00 weekdays. Small children stay with their parents at the Day Center. Older children go to school or daycare.
4. Two Family Promise vans operated by volunteers or staff provide transportation for these families.
5. Social service agencies and churches refer guests to Family Promise and we assist guests in finding housing jobs and social services at a third of the cost of traditional shelters.
