Trinidad Church
A multicultural church of The United Methodist Church.

Historical Summary

Tejanos (Mexican Americans) have long been present in North Texas. However, the Mexican Revolution precipitated increased migration of Mexican nationals into North Fort Worth. In 1914, The Methodist Episcopal Church, South responded to the need with the establishment of the "Mexican Mission" near the Stockyards on the Chisolm Trail. The congregation grew rapidly under the leadership of Rev. Santiago Gomez. The church on Commerce Street was officially chartered in 1923 as "La Primera Metodista Mexicana." In the 1950s, the frame building was razed. A beautiful neo-gothic brick chapel took its place. Less than a decade later, the building was sold to the Panamerican Golf Association. The congregation, now known as Iglesia Metodista La Trinidad, relocated to the Northside Church of God on 1300 Gould Avenue. With proceeds in hand, they made a near even swap for the property and building. Meanwhile, the PGA sold the Commerce Street building to Joe T. Garcia's Restaurant for a handsome profit. A few of the original families survive and gladly blend with the majority "newcomers." La Trinidad United Methodist Church operates under the authority of the Rio Grande Conference, San Antonio Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church.
