"The Mission of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)"

Hilton Christian Church Passion

Being Christian involves being shaped by the language of the Christian tradition, including the Bible as the foundation of the tradition. Some in this church understand Christian language quite literally and factually. Others understand it symbolically and metaphorically. What we share is a common passion for the more-than-literal meaning of the stories and teachings that shape us.

HCC Mission Statement

Calling: Hilton Christian Church exists because of our belief in God as revealed through Jesus Christ. We confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and we proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.

Identity: We believe that: The BIBLE is our guide for faith and life and that each believer is free to interpret the scriptures as led by God’s Spirit; BAPTISM is a symbolic act of our belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior; COMMUNION is an affirmation of faith to be celebrated each Lord’s Day and is open to all; the UNITY of all believers is based upon the love of Jesus Christ and His commandment that we love one another.

Purpose: Our mission is to proclaim the good news and saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ to all people through word and deed.

Beliefs and Practices

Open Communion.  The Lord's Supper or Communion, is celebrated in weekly worship.  It is open to all believers, regardless of their religious or church affiliation.

Valuing Diversity.  Each person is free to determine individual beliefs guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study and prayer.

Baptism by Immersion.  In baptism, the old self-centered life is set aside, and a new life of trust is God is made possible.  Although Disciples generally practice baptism by immersion, they honor other baptism traditions as well.

Importance of Church Unity.  All Christians should cooperate in ministry where ever possible, affirming each other as sisters and brothers in Christ.

Ministry of ALL Believers.  Both ministers and lay persons lead worship, direct services opportunities and nurture spiritual growth.

Freedom of Belief.  Disciples are called together around one essential element of faith; belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

WELCOME to ALL

We at Hilton Christian Church welcome all who seek to understand the purpose of life, all who hunger and thirst for spiritual direction, all those who gather to worship and praise Jesus Christ. At Hilton Christian Church, we develop caring relationships, grow spiritually and serve others in the name of Jesus Christ.
