Realize that we all have sin in our life. The Bible says: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23 NIV) Sin is anything we do, think, or say that would not be pleasing to God. There is a consequence for our sin.
The Bible says: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23 NIV) Our sin causes us to deserve death (being separated from God for all eternity). But God wants to give us the free gift of eternal life instead. But how can I get this gift?

Confessing your sins and believing in Jesus will save you. The Bible says: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. For, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:9,10,13 NIV) God has given us a promise. The Bible says: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9 NIV) This means that if you confess to God that you are a sinner, and believe that Jesus, God's Son, died and rose from the dead for you, and ask Jesus to be your Lord, you will be saved.
