WORD for the Week

18 FEB 2007

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith . . . .  Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones . . . .  Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous.      Galatians 6:10; Proverbs 16:24; 1 Peter 3:8

GRACE

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

But be increased in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. May he have glory now and for ever. So be it.

But grow continually in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and unto the Day of Eternity, Amen.

2 Peter 3:18 (NKJV, BBE, MNT)

But grow… continually grow, increasing in grace… of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!   What is grace?  I once heard the definition “God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.”  But we also see God’s grace evident upon mankind before the Lord came to earth and brought salvation to all.

Here is a quick (and small study) on just a few (of the many) verses using the word grace found in the NKJV (see verses/references at the end).

Noah found grace…

Grace is given to the humble…

Grace came through Jesus Christ…

Justification freely comes by His grace…

We are under grace (not the Law of Moses)…

God’s grace is sufficient…

By grace we are saved…

Our speech should be filled with grace…

God’s grace brought salvation to all…

In short, grace is a part of our everyday life.  We have salvation by God’s grace (Eph 2:8-9; Rom 4:4), the very same grace that has freed us from the law (Rom 3:24, 6:14).

God’s grace is sufficient for both you and me (2 Cor 12:9).  Sufficient! Enough!  I don’t need an ounce more of God’s grace than what I already have.  I am not lacking or in need of additional grace, but have it in abundance already!

Whatever comes my way today, whatever crosses my path in life, whatever arrives in the journey we walk, we can have peace and comfort knowing that God’s grace is sufficient.  That’s not a magical or mystical cure to remove hardships, struggles, frustrations, problem, pain, etc, but a comfort, an assurance, knowing that God is with us, and has given us in advance all we need to make it through this day.  But one thing we must keep in mind, that with this freedom we have in grace, we must not abuse it.  As Paul shared in Romans 6:15, “What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace?  Certainly not!”  The KJV expresses this a bit more bluntly saying “God forbid!  And the BBE states “Let it not be so.

God’s grace does not grant us a free pass to sin, but rather gives us reason, all the more, not to sin as we are no longer slaves of sin, or bound by the law, instead we are free – free to do right, to do good, and to abide by the will of God to live honorably for Him.

Today… whatever may come your way, but good and bad, happy and sad, filled with joy or sorrow, may you find peace and comfort in the sufficient Grace that God has freely given.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.2 Pet 3:18

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”  Rom 16:24

Ge 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Pr 3:34 Surely He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble.

Joh 1:17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Ro 3:24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Ro 4:4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.

Ro 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

2Co 12:9 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

Col 4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
