WORD for the Week

11 MAR 2007

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith . . . .  Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones . . . .  Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous.      Galatians 6:10; Proverbs 16:24; 1 Peter 3:8

The scriptures reveal that all of mankind is born in sin and as a result we became prisoners to death, and separated from God.  But the work of Jesus Christ, through His life and ministry on this earth, with His death, burial, and resurrection, our payment has been paid in full and we are freed from the bondage and wages of sin.  As a result, our relationship with the Heavenly Father has been re-established.  The sacrifice of Jesus Christ brings justification to those who believe and receive the Lord’s eternal gift of salvation.

As a child of God, we have been justified.  As I once heard the explanation on what JUSTIFIED means, “it is JUST IF I’D never sinned!  The American Heritage Dictionary defines justification as:

2. To declare free of blame; absolve. 3. Theology. To free (a human being) of the guilt and penalty attached to grievous sin. Used only of God.

The blood of Jesus Christ allows us to be justified, for no one can be justified by the law (of Moses).  The law was our tutor, which brought us to Christ so that we may be justified by faith (Rom 3:28, 5:1, 9; Gal 3:11, 24-26, 2:16-17, 5:4).

Through faith, one is justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of God.  And with faith we are justified freely by God’s grace (Rom 3:24, 28, 5:1; 1 Cor 6:11; Gal 2:16-17, 3:24-26).

Having been justified we have peace with God.  And with God’s justification we are heirs according to the hope of eternal life (Rom 5:1; Tit 3:7).

“Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” (Ro 5:9)

The question asked in Job 25 “How then can man be justified with God?” is answered quite simply in Romans 8:33.  It is God who justifies!”

Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified… Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. (Ro 8:30-33)

If we have been justified by God how should we live?  Shall we sin that grace may abound, or should our life reflect honor and glory to the One who justified us?  Paul answers this in Romans 6, may it never be that we allow grace to abound! Rather, as the Angels shared with the shepherds in Luke 2:14, "Glory to God in the highest!”  And may we, as one’s who are justified, live to bring God all glory and honor due His name!

Join us next week when the questioned is asked “But how do we gain knowledge?”
