House Blessing
The blessing of homes is one of the traditions of the Church to connect ourselves with the major event of the Theophany, when God revealed Himself in three persons: Father through the voice, the Son in the waters, and the Holy Spirit in a form of a dove. The waters from that feast day, is to be kept in the house and drink from it at major feast days, name days, birth-days, as well as in time of troubles. The visitation of the priest and the blessing of the home is to bring the news of the revelation of the Trinity to all and bless the people and their homes with the Holy Waters.
While waiting for the priest, please prepare a small bowl with fresh water (about 12 oz), a candle (preferably beeswax), one icon and a list of names of the living members of that family. Please do not write the names of pets, nor should the names be written such as: J.P. or A.Z, but rather the full baptismal name. Also, during the blessing of the house turn off the TV set and any musical devices. Refrain from smoking during the house blessing. If you have pets, please lock them in a different room so they will not be in the way.
Please check the calendar below and see if the time you are scheduled is a good time to have me come and bless your house. If the day or time are not convenient, please contact me directly at 304-650-2772 to make further arrangements. Also, if you do not wish to have your house blessed at this time let me know. Our administrative assistant will give you a courtesy reminder call the day prior to the day you are scheduled.
Enclosed with the house blessing schedule, you will find a dyptic, or a list of names. Please fill it in and return it to Father Rosu to commemorate the names during the preparation of the Holy Gifts for the whole year. Please write only the baptis-mal names of both the living and the deceased.
